Unusual Questions IMG’s Are Being Asked on Interview Trail

 

I have been coaching IMG’s inside the IMG Roadmap Program and it's mind-blowing what questions they are being asked this cycle.

Inside the imgroadmapgroup.com some of my mentees shared the following questions with me from the interview trail this year:

  • Tell me about yourself. (I show you how to answer this in this video)

  • Create a pitch convincing me why you’d be a good fit for this program.

  • Why should we select you for our program over candidates scoring >250

  • What advice would you give yourself looking 5 years into the past?

  • What are your future plans?

  • What do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years from now?

  • Tell me about an achievement, case, etc that you’re most proud of.

  • *The interviewer gave a scenario of a co-resident taking the praise from the attending for the work you did.* How would you approach a situation like this?

  • What are some of your hobbies?

  • What do you do in your free time?

  • Tell me about a time in your medical career when you felt insecure.

  • What would you do if the EMR system was changed overnight?

  • What would you do to improve primary healthcare in the USA?

  • How would you impact your specialty?

  • What type of a leader would you like to be?

  • How would you use leadership skills in the program?

  • Tell me of a time you disagreed with the administration or team leader and how you handled it.

  • *Interviewer shares a situation where you have a patient who has been long due for a mammogram but has not been going for one. What changes would you make to improve screening in a community?

  • How would you describe an airplane to a blind person?

  • Tell me about a time in your career when you had to adapt. (show you how to address behavioral questions inside my interview prep self-paced program)

  • Tell me about your experiences.

  • In your opinion, what are the social determinants of health?

  • If you had 25 hours in a day, what would you do with the extra hour?

  • In the last month, what new thing have you tried out of medicine?

  • Question about any red flags

  • What do you bring to the program?

  • Think of 3 qualities/strengths that you bring to the program.

  • Share one weakness

  • What do you do if a co-resident is not doing part of their work?

  • What would be your support system if you needed to move?

  • Explain something that someone criticized and how you reacted.

  • Why the specialty?

  • Why that program?

  • Do you have any ties to the location?

  • Explain an experience where you were part of a team and what was the outcome.

  • Explain an experience where you had trouble between patients and their families and how you handled it.

  • What do you understand about cultural humility?

  • Tell us an interesting/memorable case you had

  • As part of the community, how do you assess the needs of the community?

  • Tell us an experience of how you used speaking another language to help a patient.

  • In a religious institution, what do you think about the program of spiritual care to help patient medical care?

  • Explain your medical journey

  • What motivates you and how would you motivate your team?

  • In one of the meet and greet, they asked all the applicants if you were a house appliance, what would you be and why?
